SSC CGL Recruitment 2026 — Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

​You must be an Indian citizen. Candidates from Nepal and Bhutan can also apply for this post.

​Age Limit

Your age is calculated as on August 1, 2026. Your Class 10 certificate is the only accepted proof of date of birth.

​Educational Qualification

​You need a graduation degree to apply. This means BA, B.Com, B.Sc, BCA, B.Tech — any stream from any recognized college. The subject of your degree does not matter for most posts.

​If you want to apply for the Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) post, you need 60% marks in Mathematics in Class 12 or Statistics as a subject in graduation.

​You need basic computer knowledge to pass the Tier 2 exam. No certificate is required at the time of applying. Final year students can apply if they get their degree by August 1, 2026.

​Other Requirements

​Only specific posts like Inspector (Excise/Preventive/Examiner) and Sub-Inspector (CBI/NIA/NCB) require physical standards. For example, male candidates need a height of 157.5 cm for CBIC Inspector posts. See the official PDF for full physical details.

Selection Process for SSC CGL 2026

Stage 1 — Tier 1 Written Exam

A computer-based test of 200 marks covering Math, English, Reasoning, and General Awareness. Duration: 1 hour. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks per wrong answer. Candidates scoring above cut off go to Stage 2.

​Stage 2 — Tier 2 Written Exam

A detailed test of core subjects and computer knowledge. A typing test (Data Entry Speed Test) is also held on the same day. There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Paper-I.

​Stage 3 — Document Verification

Show original documents directly to your allotted user department. No interview for this post.

​ℹ️ NOTE: Tier 1 is qualifying only. Final merit is based on Tier 2 written exam marks. There is no interview.

SSC CGL Salary 2026

Pay Scale: Rs 44,900 — Rs 1,42,400 per month (Pay Level 7 for Inspector/ASO)
